The Historical Magazine printed the Diary of the Indian campaign in Florida of 1837-8, written by Capt. Electus Backus, U.S.A. The Tampa Sunday Tribune also had Backus information published December 2, 1956:
The diary continues with its detailed daily entries. We find Captain Backus in the Everglades on February 7th, where he captured 70 Indian ponies.
